Patriotism

Some recent articles on patriotism in the Telegraph, and in Overcoming Bias.

Our feelings on patriotism are colored by the times we live in. This is a relatively peaceful time for the west, despite the gathering storm clouds, and so patriotism is not particularly useful. The exception is the US, whose hegemony is responsible for the current peace, and must therefore keep sufficient faith to maintain that peace.

When America fails, hopefully not soon, and the world is plunged back into chaos, I am sure that patriotism, or some such emotional expression of loyalty to whatever organization is offering protection to you and yours, will come back into style.
